A Century of Music

Over 100 years of Scottish musical tradition in the heart of Auckland.

The Auckland Police Pipe Band has been a fixture in Auckland's musical and ceremonial landscape since 1921. From humble beginnings as a small corps of police officers, the band has grown into one of New Zealand's most respected pipe bands, with a proud record of competitive achievement and community service.

1921

Founded

The Auckland Police Pipe Band was established, bringing Scottish piping tradition to the New Zealand Police.

1940s–50s

Post-War Growth

The band grew in membership and reputation, performing at significant civic and ceremonial events in Auckland.

1970s

Competition Era Begins

The band began competing seriously at the New Zealand Pipe Band Championships, establishing itself as a competitive force.

1990s

Community Expansion

Membership opened more broadly to civilian community members alongside serving police officers.

2000s

Modern Resurgence

A period of renewed focus on musical excellence and competitive performance, with strong results at nationals.

2023

Hamilton Gardens Performance

Notable performance at Hamilton Gardens Festival, showcasing the band's musical range and competitive strength.

2024

Nationals Success

Strong performance at the 2024 New Zealand Pipe Band Championships, competing MSR, Medley, and Street March sets.
